adminJOHANNESBURG. — If Orlando Pirates win the African Champions League, the PSL will have two representatives at next year’s edition of the competition, Caf has confirmed. South Africa used to be allocated two spots for the event, but due to PSL teams’ poor performance on the continent over the years the number was reduced to one.
Now with Pirates up against Al Ahly in the Final, fans have been asking what will happen to Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs for the 2014 tournament should the Buccaneers claim honours.

And the answer from Caf is an emphatic yes.
“If Pirates wins the Orange Champions League, South Africa will then have two representatives,” Caf secretary general Junior Binyam told KickOff.com.
Binyam adds that “Pirates will not be involved in the preliminary round” if they win this year’s competition.
In Europe, if a team wins the Uefa Champions League and doesn’t qualify by winning a domestic League or finishing high enough, they take the place of a team from their own country.
This happened in 2012 when Chelsea failed to qualify for the Uefa Champions League, but after winning it Tottenham Hotspur, who had finished fourth in the Premier League, were forced to forfeit their spot. — KickOff.
