SA crash claims 5 Zimbabweans

Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau
Five Zimbabweans died yesterday morning following a collision between a Toyota Quantum and Sable Class bus about 10km before Beitbridge Border Post in Musina.
Limpopo Province Ministry of Transport spokesperson Mr Matome Moremi confirmed the death of five people in the commuter omnibus.

He said both the Toyota Quantum and bus were travelling from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe. The Quantum, he said, made a sudden U-turn in front of the bus resulting in the collision.

“At around 0337 hours this morning, On N1-North at Mussina check point Vhembe District, a cross-border Toyota Quantum turned in front of on-coming traffic and collided with a cross-border bus. Five people died and several others were injured. Full details will be communicated later.”

The deceased are at Mussina Hospital mortuary.

The incident comes shortly after 15 Zimbabweans were killed in two separate incidents on the N1 Highway outside Polokwane.

The first accident involved an Intercape bus that overturned, killing 11 people, after the driver lost control.

In the other accident, which occurred near the same spot as the first, three people were killed when the driver lost control of a vehicle that was travelling from Pretoria.
