SA ready for CHAN tourney

The Local Organising Committee of the Orange African Nations Championship South Africa 2014 has pulled out all the stops to ensure that the opening ceremony of the tournament is one of the most spectacular and memorable events to start the year. Set to take place at the iconic 65 000 sitter Cape Town Stadium which will also host all Group A matches, including the Quarter Finals and Final, the Opening Ceremony will set the tone for what is set to be a ground-breaking tournament. Themed “Celebrating Africa’s Home Champions”, the Orange CHAN 2014 Opening Ceremony will showcase the diversity and beauty of Africa with its fusion of African arts, music and dance. Keeping in mind the excellence and growth of Africa in the past years, the LOC has secured top of the range African artists that are equally suitable for such a momentous and historic event.

The opening ceremony, scheduled to officially mark the start of the Orange CHAN 2014 will start at exactly 16 00 and will boast great performances by Jimmy Dludlu, The Soil, Zolani Mkhiva, Jessica Mpangeni and a whole lot more wonderful musical talent the country possesses. In orchestrating this magnificent production, the LOC has appointed non-other than renowned choreographer, Somizi Mhlongo who was behind the exceptional Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Afcon 2013. Orange CHAN 2014 will be the first major event of the year when South Africa celebrates 20 years of democracy.

LOC CEO, Mr Mvuzo Mbebe assured South Africans and the rest of Africa that this will be one of the most memorable Opening Ceremonies to have ever been staged. “We have pulled out all the stops for this one. You will notice that the calibre and experience of these artists can never be questioned. As the LOC, we still stand by our promise of delivering a successful tournament to South Africans and the rest of Africa. Part of that is of course an Opening Ceremony that will set the bar for the football action to follow on the pitch. We urge Africans to come out in their numbers to witness a spectacular opening to the Orange African Nations Championship 2014” concluded Mbebe. The public is also reminded to make use of the Phase 1 ticket sales campaign where fans can get up to 20 percent discount on tickets. — supersport.com
