CAPE TOWN. — The South African government announced yesterday that it has relocated its diplomatic staff out of Libya due to the volatile and unpredictable situation there. “South African citizens living and working in Libya should seriously consider relocating until the security situation in Libya improves,” Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) said.
DIRCO spokesperson Clayson Monyela said the government wishes to inform prospective South Africans travelling to Libya and those currently residing in Libya that the prevailing security situation in Libya “is cause for great concern”.
With more than 200 people killed, Libya is now facing the worst violence since 2011. For over three weeks, rival militias have been fighting around Tripoli international airport, attempting to take control of the air hub. — Xinhua.
