Shingirai Sabeta of the “Mau Mau” fame has made an explosive return to the local music scene with a single entitled “Ndamutswa”. The single is taken off his upcoming album “Damascus” featuring upcoming rapper Alvina.
On the song, Sabeta narrates his ordeal when he almost died before being delivered by God.
While he has been receiving rave reviews for the track, spirits are high in the Zim hip-hop camp with some predicting he will change the course of the “lost” ship.
Sabeta made an impact in local rap in the mid 90s, a time when that genre was not appreciated in the country. His songs “Mau Mau” , “Blackness” and “Mfecane” earned him respect from his fans.
He however, went off the radar and relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa. He returned home last year.
While he still rhymes in both English and Shona his message is now on a gospel tip since he gave his life to Jesus in 2005. As a self appointed soldier in the Lord’s army he aims to:
“Bring lives to Christ and into God’s presence and love through music and art. (I) strongly believe in using music as a form of ministry, and believe that only a radical, bold Christianity will lead today’s hip-hop generation toward God,” he posted on his Facebook page.
His upcoming album is a reference to a Biblical conversion of the apostle Paul.
