Sables back in camp

celebrate as they due back in camp in Bulawayo last night.
The Sables will continue with their Victoria Cup campaign with another home assignment against Uganda, which has been pencilled in for Hartsfield ground on Saturday.
Uganda are expected in the country on Thursday morning and will travel by road to the City of Kings the same day. They are scheduled to have a feel of the match venue on Friday.
But it is the Sables, who are on a high after their convincing win over Kenya at Harare Sports Club last Saturday which left them fancying their chances of claiming the Cup.
Brendon Dawson’s men also travelled by road to Bulawayo yesterday afternoon. A win over Uganda will ensure that the Sables equal their 1987 record of a four -match unbeaten run.
They have so far claimed the scalps of Uganda, Madagascar and Kenya.
Although they did not climb up the world rankings where they are still perched at 40, the victory over Kenya was still greeted with excitement by the domestic rugby family and was due reward for the huge crowd that turned up at Harare Sports Club for the encounter.
Kenya’s defeat, however, meant that the East Africans fell three places down the ladder from 35.
Victor Sudi, Kenya skipper attributed their defeat to the changes that were made to their team.
“We lost because there were a lot of changes to the side we brought here last year. Some of the boys were injured and we also had some new boys in the team. It is good that the boys saw the demands of the game and now they know what to expect in international rugby and this would also prepare them for the coming games.
“Zimbabwe were surely a better side today because they managed to use the ball well when they had it, they attacked well and defended well.
“But we will have to work on our weaknesses for the return leg as Zimbabwe will be coming to Kenya in a few weeks time and in the mean time we have to focus on Uganda first.
“But I would like to say that the treatment we got here was very good, we never had any problems the accommodation and treatment was truly good.” said the Kenya centre.
Kenya coach Michael “Tank” Otieno whose side trained at Prince Edward School also commended the Harare school’s facilities.
“In Kenya you would not have a high school with such good facilities, that was a good venue to train at.
“In the game we did not manage to use the territorial advantage when we were in the Zimbabwe danger zone we lacked the killer instinct and a lot of mistakes on our part made us lose the game,” said Otieno.
The Zimbabwe duo of Tichafara Makwanya with 27 points and Gardner Nechironga (15 points) lead the top points scorers as the Sables are pitching at the top of the log without a defeat. Makwanya’s points, come from six conversions, one drop goal and four penalties while Nechironga’s tally is made up of three tries, inclusive of his brace against Kenya on Saturday.
Mwanja who scored a brace for Kenya on Saturday is in third place tied with Ugandan teenager Justin Kimono who touched down twice against Zimbabwe two weeks ago.
Jacques Leitao, Charles Jiji, Danny Robertson, Denford Mutamangira, Tangai Nemadire, have all scored a try apiece in this tournament while Daniel Kiptoo and Allan Omuka both of Kenya and Robert Seguya (Uganda) also have a try each to their names.
