SADC and the African Development Bank (AfDB) are enhancing collaboration to explore economic opportunities worth UA 17.4 million (US$22.6 million) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

A series of strategic engagements took place on the sidelines of the 2025 AfDB Annual Meetings under the theme “Making Africa’s Capital Work Better for Africa’s Development.”

The theme focuses on harnessing Africa’s human, natural, financial, and commercial capital to drive structural transformation, economic resilience, and sustainable development across the continent.

On Tuesday, SADC said the discussions between SADC Executive Secretary Mr Elias Magosi and AfDB Vice President Ms Nnenna Nwabufo focused on four key projects under the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030.

These are aimed at improving fisheries governance, trade facilitation, macroeconomic convergence, and regional financial integration.

Discussions also addressed priorities such as streamlining customs processes, coordinated border management, cross-border value chains in agro-processing and minerals, and strengthening industrial skills.

Mr Magosi expressed gratitude for AfDB’s support in advancing the SADC Regional Development Fund (RDF), while Ms Nwabufo reaffirmed AfDB’s commitment to enhancing cooperation on strategic initiatives aligned with Africa’s development goals. -@muponderichard
