Killer pitbull owner remanded in custody

The owner of the pitbull that mauled a man in Bluff Hill on Sunday has been remanded in custody after the State opposed bail.

Mike Mupinga was not asked to plead when he appeared before Magistrate Mrs Marewanazvo Gofa, charged with culpable homicide.

The State was represented by Mr Rufaro Chonzi.

Mrs Gofa is expected to hand down the bail ruling on Friday.

Allegations are that on May 31, Mupinga, the owner of three pitbulls and a Rottweiler, went to bed and negligently left the dogs roaming around his yard, which is secured by a short perimeter wall.

The vicious dogs then scaled over the perimeter wall and charged towards the now deceased Samuel Machara, who was walking along the nearby street.

The dogs then bit Machara all over the body.

Machara sustained some deep wounds on the neck and laceration wounds on the hands, legs and the stomach.

He died instantly.

Mupinga has an outstanding warrant of arrest over a rape allegation in a case that is still pending.
