NAMIBIA’s President Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah told delegates at a United Nations meeting in New York that Africans are not asking anyone for money, but fairness and justice to enable the continent to achieve lasting prosperity and advancement.
In remarks at yesterday’s high-level meeting themed, “Two Years after the Pact for the Future: Progress on Implementation, Challenges and Opportunities for Africa”, Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah underscored that Africa only yearned for a more equitable global system that gives the continent a fair opportunity to develop and prosper.
Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah co-chaired the meeting with Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe that reviewed progress made since the signing of the pact was announced to advance Africa’s developmental goals.
The SADC bloc praised deliberations made at the meeting, highlighting their alignment with aspirations of its Vision 2050 and Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020-2030.
“The issues discussed are closely aligned with SADC Vision 2050 and the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020-2030, particularly the region’s aspirations for inclusive economic growth, youth development, digital transformation, stronger institutions and sustainable financing.”
“Discussions focused on Africa’s progress in implementing the Pact for the Future, the challenges encountered and opportunities to accelerate implementation. Particular attention was given to youth empowerment, financing for development, international tax cooperation, digital transformation and ensuring that the voices and aspirations of future generations are reflected in global decision-making,” SADC the bloc in a statement.
Representatives from SADC member states, African Heads of State and Government, representatives of Regional Economic Communities, the African union Commission, the United Nations, development partners, civil society and youth organisations attended the meeting.
