adminDespite the miners finishing a disappointing seventh in the Premiership, Sadiki turned on the magic and tried to inspire his club to success.
His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was rewarded with the club’s best player award.
Sadiki won the accolade ahead of Welcome Ndiweni who was named the Players Players’ of the Year and walked away with US$1 250.
FC platinum, runners-up to Dynamos in their debut season in the top-flight also vowed to bounce back in 2013 with outgoing club president Nathan Shoko declaring that they would only derive satisfaction from actually winning the title.
“Last season we congratulated Dynamos when they piped us the championship but next season we need to better the seventh position and better the second position and we will not hug anyone but ourselves because we will be number one,” said Shoko.
“We are not seeking to better anyone except ourselves and we are going to pick ourselves up. We are often talked about on negative and positive things but we are proud because we are ahead of those who talk about us,” shoo said.
Shoko was also conferred as an honourary president of the team.
He also took a swipe at players who are accused of rushing to discuss issues related to bonuses to the media.
“When you join FC Platinum you get married to the family and your heart should be FC Platinum. We got you by choice and if FC Platinum is not good for you, it means you are also not good for the club’’.
Shoko admitted that his team had a poor season as they had been aiming to secure a Champions League slot but added that they got some consolation when they lifted the Bob 88 Super Cup and the Independence trophy.
The outgoing president said the awards ceremony was held more to celebrate superior performance of individuals who performed brilliantly who needed to be recognised for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the incoming president George Mawere lauded his predecessor and said the club was indebted to Shoko.
“We now have high standards of football in the country as Shoko is a versatile leader, strategist who was short in words but loud in actions.
“He reminds me of Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart a book by Chinua Achebe and from today I will call him Okonkwo” he said to loud cheers.
Under Shoko’s administration Mandava was renovated to a top class facility and the soccer team turned into a business entity.
Mawere promised to continue with Shoko’s plans to build a village for the team.
Meanwhile, defender Norman Togara who was nearly snubbed at the beginning of the season by former coach Rahman Gumbo was the happiest man when he was named for the President’s Special award which carried $750 cheque.
Togara was the last man to get the prize from Shoko and it is the executive that stood by him when he was nearly offloaded.
The former Dynamos, Masvingo United and Gunners man promised to deliver next season and “the years to come until my legs can no longer run’’.
Daniel Veremu who hardly put a foot wrong this season following his appointment as the club’s captain scooped the Most Consistent Player of the season.
