It is alleged that Safa secretly hired the sangoma, S’bonelo Madela from Ulundi, ahead of the match versus France during the 2010 World Cup.
Bafana won 2-1, but were knocked out in the first round. Madela apparently demanded R100 000 initially for his services, but eventually lowered the fee to R60 000. It would appear Safa reneged on the deal and only paid the sangoma R10 000 for the muti deal and Madela has now repeatedly threatened Safa, claiming Bafana will never win another match until the Safa top brass settle the debt. Safa vice-president Mwelo
Nonkonyana has been quoted saying they paid Madela for the services, but Madela disputes this claim. This is further embarrassment for Safa, after the association misinterpreted CAF’s rules over the weekend leading to Bafana Bafana failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. — Kickoff.com.
