Khanondo Safaris is owned by Mines and Mining Development Minister Dr Obert Mpofu.
In an interview, Victoria Falls mayor Councillor Nkosilathi Jiyane said Khanondo Safaris had taken the burden off the cash-strapped council by offering to build the roads.
He said the municipality had received money from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) but the cash was for rehabilitation of existing roads only.
“We have received a timely boost from Khanondo Safaris which is showing some corporate social responsibility towards the town they are operating in.
“There are two roads that are being constructed by Khanondo Safaris, one off Kazungula Road and the other along Little Harrods to make the residential area of the Aerodrome accessible,” said Clr Jiyane.
He said the construction was being done at no cost to the municipality.
“We are only providing our trucks which they are also fuelling.
“We really appreciate the work by Khanondo in ploughing back to the community,” he said.
“Council has no capacity to construct new roads and our budget is little.”
Clr Jiyane said they welcomed the development as the council was in the process of sprucing up the whole town.
Khanondo Safaris has also donated two generators to Victoria Falls District Hospital and Chinotimba Clinic respectively for the benefit of the community.
“The company is also refurbishing the clinic and has repaired leaking ceilings and sewer reticulation,” he said.
