A private security firm donated a vehicle to Braeside Police Station on Friday.
Safeguard Security Company donated a Nissan NP300 vehicle through the ZRP Braeside Crime Liaison Committee to help the fight against crime.
Safeguard general manager for operations, Charles Nyakutipa, said the donation is to help visible policing in the area.
“We value our partnership with the police, and we recognise the importance of their role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community,” said Nyakutipa.
“The vehicle can accommodate a good number of officers from point A to point B or any other administrative duties it may be assigned to from time to time.
“We hope that this vehicle will help the police improve response time, increase patrol coverage, and enhance communication,” he said.
The officer commanding Harare Province, Commissioner Wonder Tembo, said Safeguard had not only donated to the police, but to the community as part of its corporate social responsibility because the fruits of the donation are going to be enjoyed by the community.
“ZRP Braeside managed to reduce crime last year because of partnership with the community and corporates,” said Comm Tembo.
“The Station recorded 2 924 cases in 2021 and 2 542 cases in 2022, translating to a reduction of 382 cases.
“A 13 percent decrease in crime was noted which is a notable reduction.
“The spirit of camaraderie exhibited by Safeguard Security Company speaks volumes about how Safeguard values peace, security and development in the country.”
