adminSibanda (44), of 23849 in Pumula South, is alleged to have taken a day off the field of play to commit a robbery in the company of an accomplice who is still at large.
However, luck was not on his side as he did not only fail to rob his target but she went on to effect a citizen’s arrest nearly three months later when she spotted him in the city centre.
Sibanda was yesterday arraigned before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa to answer to a charge of attempted robbery.
He was not formally charged and was remanded out of custody to 19 January on $100 bail.
The State alleges that on 28 September at about 1pm Sibanda went to Number 6 Mosdale Road in Morningside, Ms Hellen Mukono’s house, and found her sleeping.
Armed with a knife, Sibanda knocked on the door and when Ms Mukono opened, he allegedly grabbed and pushed her inside the house.
Ms Mukono screamed and Sibanda’s accomplice, who had been hiding, stormed into the house and allegedly started assaulting her telling her to keep quiet.
It is alleged that Sibanda also attempted to touch Ms Mukono’s private parts and became angry when she resisted.
He allegedly stabbed her on the right hand before the two fled from the scene.
Sibanda and his accomplice were evading police until 21 December when Ms Mukono spotted him at Total Service Station at the corner of Robert Mugabe Way and 14th Avenue.
She reportedly alerted her husband and the two apprehended him and took him to Bulawayo Central Police Station, leading to his arrest.
