Sales clerk defrauds employer of US$38 000

A SALES assistant for a local company has been arraigned before the court for allegedly failing to account for missing stock worth US$38 000.

Samuel Chifana (31) was granted US$100 bail when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with fraud. He was advised to return to court on January 13, 2025.

The complainant is Hyper Feeds Nutrition (Pvt) Ltd represented by Mr Archford Muyambo, an  accountant. Prosecutor Mr Rufaro Chonzi alleged that on 30 September at Hyper Feeds in Waterfalls Harare during usual monthly reconciliations Mr Muyambo discovered that there were discrepancies in cash and physical stock in respect of the Bulawayo branch where Chifana had responsibility to bank cash and stock reconciliation. He notified Chifana of the situation. Mr Muyambo then carried out cash banked reconciliation and found a discrepancy of US$38 705. Nothing was recovered.
