MUTARE-BASED sungura artiste, Brian ‘Samaita’ Runganga has finished working on his eighth album and is set to officially release the project next month.
Unpacking the album to Weekender Entertainment, the multi-award winning musician-cum-businessman, who has roped in new band members, revealed that the album contains five tracks which are inspired by his life experiences and day-to-day issues. S
ongs on the album, which is yet to be named are Mubvandiripo, Gweja Nyumwa, Memo, Ndinovimba Nemi and Kudzuramidzi.
“It has been a hectic period and we have been spending several hours in the studio to make sure that the project is flawless. We are, however, glad that the final project is done and we can’t wait to have feedback from our dear fans dotted across the region.
“We kept our consistency and made sure that our distinct barura sound is preserved, while intertwining the instruments with impactful lyrics that I believe will go a long way in moulding listeners’ moral uprightness,” said Samaita.
The track Ndinovimba Nemi is a thanksgiving song.
“I coined this song after realising that God sticks with His people in every season.
“It is a song that talks about peace and tranquility that comes with having faith in God, trusting Him even in situations that we may have no power over.
“The song Gweja Nyumwawo is a gem that encourages people to believe in their sixth sense.
“Before making mistakes or uniformed decisions in life, we tend to ignore the inner voice of conscience,” he said.
The versatile guitarist roped in experienced guitarists, some of them musicians in their own right, for instance the likes of Mathew Perego as well as Utakataka Express and the late Tongai Moyo’s most trusted lieutenants, Evidence Jahwi Tarabuku; veteran bassist, Spenser Khumulani and drummer, Prince Kapatsa.
Samaita last released an album, Kwaive Kusaziva, in 2021. The album was a dedication to his late father, Lamerk Runganga.
He has been holding most of his shows in Malawi, Botswana and Mozambique.
To date, Samaita has seven albums – Nemiwo Munazvo, Murodzi Wepfungwa, Tsono, Kumaziva ndadzoka, Rinoonekwa nemavanga, Ndafunga Dembo and Kwaive kusaziva.
The lead guitarist was also recently honored with a Social Impact Award at the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards ceremony held in Mutare early this year.
Samaita was born in Chinhoyi in December 1977, before mooting his musical career at Urundi Primary School when he joined the school choir at a tender age of 10.
