SAMUEL ETO’O will not be able to attend Cameroon’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Zimbabwe next month as he will be serving a six-month FIFA ban.
Eto’o is the Cameroon Football Federation president and was yesterday banned from attending any of the Indomitable Lions matches for six months.
One of those matches is against the Warriors next month.
Cameroon, who are in the same AFCON qualifying group as Zimbabwe, will also take on Kenya in back-to-back matches while also having a date with Namibia.
The former Barcelona and Chelsea striker was sanctioned following breaches of two articles of the world governing body’s disciplinary code.
In July, CAF fined US$200 000 for an ethics breach, but found insufficient evidence to pursue a charge related to allegations of match-fixing.
The Confederation of African Football opened an investigation into Eto’o’s conduct in August last year after receiving “written statements from several Cameroonian football stakeholders”. – Sports Reporter/BBC Sport
