Sanctions affect ZNA training programmes

He said the scarcity of training resources was as a result of the illegal sanctions imposed on the country by Western powers that were opposed to the Government’s efforts to empower its people.
“The scarcity of training resources is one area that remains a challenge to the entire organisation. Although there are improvements in the supply of rations, other areas still face shortages. The sanctions that were imposed on our economy by Western powers continue to hurt our economy,” said Maj Gen Mugoba.

He said that the provision of resources was largely dependant on the national economy but expressed hope that the situation will improve as the economy recovers.
A total of 222 students among them five officers from the Namibian Defence Forces graduated after undergoing a 14-week training in different fields.
Maj Gen Mugoba hailed the relations between Zimbabwe and Namibia, which he said dates back to the days of the liberation struggle for both countries.

“The history between the two countries dates back to the days of the liberation  struggle when Zimbabwe fought to gain independence and Namibia contributed towards this cause and equally Zimbabwe was instrumental in the achievement of the same goal,” added Maj Gen  Mugoba.
He said the two countries constituted part of the allied forces during several missions under the Sadc banner and it was no wonder that they shared the same vision on the issue of land which is central to the prosperity of the region.

He further thanked the government of Namibia for their unwavering support  in the call for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe, as was exhibited by the former head of state Cde Sam  Nujoma.

From the Namibian students the best allied student was Corporal Fillipus Ausiku.
Among the 222 graduates, there were five female officers the best of whom was Corporal Mayibongwinkosi Dube who was the best student in the Squad Drill Instructors course after beating other 68 students to the title.

But the crowning moment was when Private Simbarashe Vushe was promoted to the rank of corporal for being the best student in the Small Arms Instructors’ course beating other 43 students in the process.
