Illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the West and its allies are impinging on the enjoyment of human rights by ordinary Zimbabweans, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.In his address at the United Nations Association Human Rights Day on Wednesday in Harare, Minister Mnangagwa re-affirmed the country’s commitment to respecting human rights despite the sanctions-induced hardships.
“Government reaffirms its commitment to do its utmost in addressing all human rights issues despite the burden placed on it by the illegal sanctions regime imposed on the country by some Western countries,” he said.
“Government continues to face resource constraints in meeting some of its human rights obligations. The challenges are a spin-off from the illegal sanctions. In order to fully enjoy such rights in an unfettered way, we need to be economically stable.”
