Besides Sandra, the gig of the year also pitted Jeys Marabi and Majalisa, Jeys did not disappoint as he put up a sterling performance compared to Majalisa who failed to impress.
Ndebele was the first to perform and she proved to have matured in her music as she went on to use the Macheso kind of presentation that left fans asking for more.
Ndebele’s base guitarist, Tinashe was outstanding as he played the guitar like Alick Macheso.
Fans could not hide their joy and excitement as they started singing some of Macheso’s songs even though he was not part of the line up. Sandy as she is known by her fans, took advantage of the thrilled crowd as she danced with her girls from the group Intombi Zomqangala.
Ndebele sang her popular song Yorirangoma and at the same time taking the opportunity to exhibit her dancing prowess. Fans could be heard whistling and ululating like people at a traditional ceremony.
Sandra went on to sing songs that include Mama and Malaika that were popular in 2001 and 2003 . Before Sandra left the stage her group members played the instrumental of Murozvi Mukuru (Samanyemba) as she paid tribute to the late music guru Tongai Moyo.
Fans could not resist and they started dancing to and singing the lyrics of the song, which is still popular after the death of Tongai.
Fans tried to convince Sandra and the band to continue playing the Murozvi Mukuru instrumental but time did not permit as she was supposed to give Majahawodwa Ndlovu a.k.a Jeys Marabini a chance to prove that Zimbabwe has got talent.
Marabini did not disappoint as he went on to play his soft Jazz to revellers who had not seen him perform in Esigodini since July. Marabini played songs like Ezinangeni, Umuzi kababa and Sisemarabini a song that saw some band members of Majalisa dancing along.
Marabini played for two hours and thereafter came Patricia at about 4am and fans were already complaining arguing that she was short- changing them.
Some fans could be heard arguing that they had paid $5 to see Majalisa but she was now taking them for a ride.
When Majalisa got on stage she opened her show with her hit song Siyalidumelisa from her latest album Emaphathini.
Majalisa only played this song for less than five minutes and she started telling her fans how special they were to her.
Some fans could be heard insulting Majalisa for stopping the music they wanted to hear.
After about seven minutes Majalisa started her second performance of a song called Mnganewami another song that is popular in Zimbabwe.
Soon after belting the two songs Sis Pathi as she is known by her fans turned her show into a musical request, as fans were given an opportunity to tell her the songs they wanted her to play and fans were not happy about that as it was almost 6am and some people were already leaving the venue. Patricia assured all her fans that all the songs they were requesting were going to be played before dawn.
“Ngiyalithembisa ukuthizonke ingoma elizicelayo lizazizwa (I can promise you that all the songs you are asking will be played),” she said. However the promise was not fulfilled as she only played four songs.
