Saneliso Mpofu to showcase at Tshwane Fashion Festival

Local designer, Saneliso Mpofu, will be travelling to South Africa this month to showcase her designs at the Tshwane Fashion Festival. The fashion festival running from April 15 to 16 will be held in Pretoria with over 15 designers from South Africa, Tanzania, Swaziland, Malawi, Kenya, Ghana and Botswana expected to participate.

Mpofu, with her Sanah Designs is the only Zimbabwean participating this year. This will be her second showcase in that country after dazzling the runway last year at the Durban Fashion Fair.

If she excels in Pretoria, Mpofu may be chosen to be one of three designers who will showcase at various fashion events in Ghana, Milan and other countries across Africa.

“I’m a bit nervous about showcasing at the festival because there’ll be Kenyan designers who’re very talented. Since this will also be a competition, I’ve high hopes that I’ll come up tops,” said Mpofu.

She thanked her sponsor, Stop to Start – a motivational, career guidance company – for making it possible for her to showcase her designs in South Africa.

“The sponsorship from Stop to Start is a positive development as it shows that there’re companies that believe in what we do as designers. If more companies sponsor us, the fashion industry will develop and grow.”

Bongani Tambo, one of the fashion festival managers said preparations were going on well with his team working hard to ensure that designers market themselves well.

“We just don’t want the designers to showcase and then it ends there. This is why we’ve invited fashion buyers whom I believe could be potential investors for the designers and other fashion related companies, to come and support the event,” said Tambo.
