The Tourism Expo which is running under the theme “Tourism for all by 2015”, would see the introduction of trading days and matching of buyers and exhibitors to ensure that maximum benefits are realised by operators during Zimbabwe’s biggest annual tourism fete.
Hospitality and Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi said all was in place for the start of the expo that has drawn more than 1200 exhibitors and 85 foreign buyers and media from around the globe. “Prominence will be on township tourism in line with the National Tourism Policy. The focus on township tourism will raise the status of the houses of liberation heroes and nationalists in the suburb to national status. We’ll try to benchmark the development of township tourism against what is going on in South Africa, what they have done to houses of nationalists in Soweto. The government of South Africa has pumped in millions of dollars into township tourism and it’s bearing fruit,” he said.
