SANYATI Rural District Council has proposed a $2,8 million budget for 2018, down from this year’s budget of $3 million. In an interview yesterday, Sanyati Rural District Council chief executive Mr Achim Shadaya said the council had projected to reduce next year’s budget due to decreasing revenue streams for rural local authorities after the reassignment of the land levy collection to the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement.
“Council has made a budgetary projection of $2,8 million for the year 2018, down from $3 million budget for 2017,” Mr Shadaya said.
“The deliberate decrease has largely been necessitated by the ever dwindling revenue streams for rural local authorities following especially the assignment of the land levy collection function to the Ministry of Lands. I am of the strongest conviction that there should be a review of Section (45) of the Finance Act in favour of rural local authorities for them to once again assume their role and be able to provide the much-needed services to their communities.”
