AFRO fusion crooner, Innocent “Sarungano” Kufakunesu, is expected to leave Zimbabwe today ahead of his maiden performance in Ireland this Friday.
Sarungano, a product of the late Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, is set to perform at Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne County.
The performance coincides with the Day of the African Child celebrations.
UK-based musicians – Ngoni Kambarami and Quonfuzed – have been roped in as supporting acts.
In an interview with H-Metro ahead of his tour, Sarungano’s manager, Eugine Museredza, said:
“We are leaving Zimbabwe on Wednesday (today) ahead of our performance on Friday.
“This is our first ever European tour that we have been longing for over the years.
“It is our hope that everything will go according to plan.
“This tour is special for us as a camp as it marks the beginning of more things to come,” said Museredza.
The manager, who has been in the game for over decades scouting for talent, believes Sarungano is now his own man.
“We have faith in this brand and it shows we still have loving people behind us.
“We will continue doing our best and we hope people will certainly embrace us.”
Sarungano plays several instruments that include the acoustic guitar, lead guitar, saxophone and mbira.
His gospel track, Rugare Ngaruwande,’ featuring Mabasa eVatumwa, is doing very well on the charts.
He has three albums to his credit.
His latest album, Nevanji The Prince, which he released in November last year, is doing well on the charts.
Museredza, who once managed Mbeu, seems to have mastered the art of identifying gems and shaping their careers.
Credit should also go to Tuku, who weaned off a number of young artists.
These include Mbeu, Munya Mataruse, Donald Kachunyu, Watson Chidzomba Junior and the late Sam Mtukudzi, among others.
