MULTIPLE award-winning South African hip-hop artiste, AKA, who received a BET Award nomination in the category Best International Act: Africa, will perform at the awards that are set for Los Angeles tomorrow.

AKA was nominated alongside South Africa’s The soil, Ghana’s Sarokdie and Stonebwoy, Nigeria’s Wizkid and Femi Alade, Kenya’s Sauti Sol and DRC’s Fally Ipupa, last month.

He was selected to perform today at the BET Hip Hop Around the World Experience, a build up event to the BET Awards, as part of a showcase of Hip Hop stars making waves outside of the USA.

AKA, who arrived in Los Angeles yesterday, said he was looking forward to performing on the world stage.

“I’m looking forward to enjoying Los Angeles and the BETs. It’s a big deal to be nominated amongst Africa’s finest artistes at the awards. I’ll be coming straight off the back of my UK tour so it’s going to be nice to have some warm weather for a change. The performance at the BET Hip Hop Around The World Experience is definitely going to be a highlight for me,” shares AKA.

AKA recently embarked on a UK tour which consisted of PR activities and interviews as well as performances. Some key PR interviews that AKA did were interviews on BBC 1 Xtra, SBTV, Capital FM, Ben TV and most notably a freestyle session on Tim Westwood’s TV Show. Tim Westwood is a world renowned UK radio DJ and has had the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, Drake and Kendrick Lamar do freestyles for him on his TV show.

The renowned artist now forms part of the heavy weight list and is the first South African artist to appear on Tim Westwood’s TV Show.
