Politician and Zanu-PF member Cde Tendai Savanhu yesterday shed tears of joy after graduating at a ceremony presided over by President Mnangagwa during the Zimbabwe Open University’s 16th Graduation Ceremony held at City Sports Centre.
Cde Savanhu was among the 2 844 students made up of 1236 males and 1608 females, waving their caps in the air after being declared officially graduates.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources Management and Industrial Relations.
The former Mbare legislator could not conceal his joy after the President declared the students officially graduates.
After the ceremony, Cde Savanhu who was flanked by some relatives could be seen talking to some youths with tears dribbling from his eyes, majestically adjusting his cap.
The youths and relatives had mobbed him to congratulate him and take selfies.
Cde Savanhu told The Herald that he was overwhelmed with the occasion, which he described as unique.
The graduation, he said, coincided with President Mnangagwa’s installation as the chancellor of the university.
“When the President pronounced us graduates, I was really overwhelmed with delight and could not hold back my tears. It was really a momentous occasion for me,” he said.
“It happened that I was one of the graduates today to graduate at the occasion which the President presided over for the first time and coincided with my graduation.”
The former Mbare legislator said many erudite leaders in Zanu-PF, the party he belongs, inspired him to upgrade himself.
