THE Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) has upgraded its laboratory quality testing system as it moves to enhance service efficiency.
Technical services director, Mr Cyril Siringwani, who was in Bulawayo Friday, said they were now using a software called Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that helps them to manage technical and management of information.
LIMS is a software-based laboratory and information management system with features that support a modern laboratory’s operations.
“LIMS deals with all information that you need in your laboratory. It supports the accreditation 17025 system. It is a system with two aspects – management and technical. It helps you to keep records of all the management and technical aspects of the laboratory,” he said.
“When you do your tests for example, the information is fed into the system and you have all the records of the raw data and information that helped you to come up with results even the usage of the materials.”
Mr Siringwani told Business Chronicle that in Harare they have started implementing the system in their chemical and food technology side and would be rolling it out in the engineering side. He said by early next year they would roll it in Bulawayo. He said previously they were using paper work like forms and logbooks, which proved to have challenges in acquiring accurate data. The standards watchdog conducted a workshop under the theme “Achieving business excellence through standards”, which was attended by different industry stakeholders in the city.
