For one to be certified a warrior, they have to go through a series of battles and come out victorious. You cannot be a warrior without waging any war. Those who shy away from battles are deemed cowards.
This resonates with a Shona proverb that says, bhuru rinorwa rinoonekwa nemavanga (a bull that fights is identified by its scars). Life itself offers us countless battles in the form of challenges we go through. How we fare in these challenges determines whether we are warriors or cowards.
Being in the battle is usually not a matter of choice. As long as you live you can be assured of going through your own battles. Hiding from them is hiding from living. An author once said, “The same walls that keep out sadness also keep out happiness.”
Do not be afraid to let life touch you. Go out and make the connections. Yes, you will meet two timers, gossipers and toxic people but in their midst you’ll also meet reliable friends and destiny helpers.

Take that risk, roll up your sleeves and go for that goal. Will you always get it right? Most probably not. You may stagger and fall but those bruises are part of the success equation: do not be afraid to experience them.
Do not be afraid to develop yourself either, so that you become an evolved version of yourself. A true warrior knows the biggest battle they have to fight is in their own internal environment: to reframe the negative thoughts, emotions, narratives and beliefs into positive ones.
Will the process be a smooth one? Most probably not. You’ll most likely lose a lot of people, suffer loneliness, get gossiped about . . . but it is also part of the success equation.
The difficult situation you are going through is not here to stay. It will no doubt pass. You will come out doubled, happier, healthier, wiser and even more powerful than before. But for now as you go through it, remember your mission: to come out victorious!
Being a warrior does not mean you won’t get tired, feel pain, fear or doubt. You will even get wounded. But you are a warrior and you have to keep on moving despite the setbacks — the fights. You will definitely come out of your battles victorious!
Take heart on the wounds you are suffering now. Soon they will heal completely, only leaving scars . . . not for you to remember the pain and discomfort but for you to remember how you survived it all — how powerful you are! Those scars will help make your hero story even more authentic. Yes, a true warrior is identified by the scars!
It is important though, in the midst of the battles to always remember where your strength comes from and who is on your side. The strength and power to conquer does not have to be of your own.
There is an all-Powerful and All-Mighty God on our side who promised to be with us each step of the way. “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you,” Joshua 1:5.
It goes without say, the one with God is the majority! With God on your side you are way powerful than any situation troubling you — than all your adversaries combined.
And you need to take note too: a warrior on a mission is not worried about the dogs that bark on the wayside. A warrior keeps their vigilance and know which battles to fight and which ones to ignore.
Do not stop to answer everything that says out your name. Do not stop to straighten every negative word you hear being said about you, don’t engage in every argument. All those are distractions thrown in your way by your cunning enemy. You need to preserve your strength for the real battles!
Take your eyes from the pettiness and focus on the greatness you are headed towards, knowing you are a true warrior and nothing dares stand in your way.
