Most parts of the country have continued to receive rain accompanied by scattered thunderstorms and hail.Manicaland Province received heavy rains exceeding 50 millimetres on Sunday.
According to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), the highest rainfall amounts were recorded in Chipinge at 97 millimetres, Mutema 62 millimetres and Bwerudza 42 millimetres.
“While notable amounts were also seen in Matopos at 41 millimetres, Mukandi 37 millimetres, Wedza 26 millimetres and Mvurwi 21 millimetres. Most areas received less than 20 millimetres of precipitation,” added MSD.
Today, most parts of the country experienced partly cloudy and mild mornings with cloud cover and temperatures increasing in the afternoon, punctuated by scattered thunderstorms.
“Heavy rainfall with hail was expected in Mashonaland East and northern Manicaland provinces,” said the MSD.
“Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo metropolitan, Harare metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces were billed to follow this pattern, while Matabeleland North province was expected to be partly cloudy and warm throughout the day with mild mornings and evenings.”
On Tuesday, Harare metropolitan, Midlands, Manicaland north, Matabeleland North and all Mashonaland provinces will be partly cloudy with mild temperatures in the morning.
“In the afternoon, it is expected to become mostly cloudy and warm with scattered thunderstorms and localised heavy rainfall towards day end,” the department said.
“Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and south of Manicaland will be partly cloudy and warm with a chance of isolated showers that may be thundery in places.”
Mild conditions should be expected in the morning and overnight.
The public is urged to stay safe during the heavy rains and to take necessary precautions, including being cautious on slippery roads and sidewalks, seeking shelter when thunder is present and staying indoors for at least 30 minutes after the last rumble.
