PAUL SCHOLES claims Manchester United a�?are not capable of playing brilliant attacking footballa�?.

Jose Mourinho made a a�?shushinga�� gesture at fans after masterminding a 1-0 win at home to Tottenham following jeers from Red Devils fans.

And he launched a scathing attack at the Old Trafford faithful by telling them to back Romelu Lukaku.

United legend Scholes, who won the Premier League 11 times with the club, told BT Sport: a�?Theya��re in a position where theya��ve brought a manager in to ultimately win the league.

a�?For four years the club hasna��t really been in a position to determine how they win it.

a�?Wea��d all like to see brilliant attacking football a�� waves after waves of attack a�� but I dona��t think this team is capable of that.

a�?Thata��s not the way this manager does it. Hea��s first and foremost a defensive coach. He wants to setup in a way that will stop the other team playing and winning games. Hea��s doing that.

a�?We have to accept his style of football, as many clubs have done. Hea��s very successful at doing it.

United became renowned under Sir Alex Ferguson for blistering attacks and entertaining football.

The Scot delivered a staggering 13 Premier League titles during his 27-year Old Trafford tenure.

Since his retirement at the end of the 2012-13 season, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Mourinho have failed to win the Premier League.

 

The Portuguese has won league titles with every club he has managed so far a�� bar United.

But Scholes, 42, has urged supporters to back the Portuguesea��s tactics a�� even if it means cheering on defensive performances.

Speaking ahead of Uniteda��s Champions League clash at home to Benfica, he said: a�?After four years there comes a point where philosophies have to go out the window.
