She banked part of the money but converted US$42 231 to her personal use. Chekera appeared before magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei charged with five counts of theft. She was remanded to July 25 on US$100 bail.
As part of her bail conditions, Chekera was ordered to report once a week to the police and not to interfere with witnesses until the matter is finalised.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleged that between January and December last, Chekera received tuck shop funds and banked a fraction of what she had received, while retaining the remainder for her own use.
The offence came to light when an audit was conducted at the school and Chekera could not account for US$18 391 in tuck shop money.
Chekera also created vouchers with varying amounts in a bid to cover for school development expenditure.
An audit was again carried out at the school and it was discovered that she had allegedly embezzled US$23 840. In total the school suffered an actual prejudice of US$42 231.
