THE director and head of Greystone Nursery School in Harare, Candice Cherry Prinsloo (52), appeared in court yesterday accused of misappropriating school funds amounting to US$84 000.
Prinsloo, who faces charges of fraud, was granted bail of US$300 by Harare Magistrate Mr Artwell Sanyatwe.
According to the prosecution, led by Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe, Prinsloo is a minority shareholder in the school, holding 49 percent, and is responsible for its operations. As part of her duties, she was tasked with receiving cash payments for school fees and depositing the funds into the school’s CABS Bank Corporate Nostro account.
The complainant is the school itself, represented by its major shareholder and finance director, David Joseph Tigere, who owns 51 percent of the company.
The State alleges that between January 1, 2025, and October 8, 2025, Prinsloo received cash payments from parents for school fees and new student registrations. While she issued receipts for the payments and some parents deposited funds directly into the school’s bank account, it is alleged that Prinsloo diverted part of the funds for personal use without the knowledge or consent of Tigere.
In early October, Tigere reportedly approached Prinsloo to account for the funds. However, she allegedly refused to cooperate, denying him access to the financial records. The matter was reported to the police on October 8, prompting an investigation.
