A Rugare Primary School head has appeared before a Harare magistrate on allegations of stealing the school’s timber and asbestos sheets.
Investigations established that the head, Calister Tarisai Matsitsiro (58), wanted to use the asbestos sheets and timber to build a fowl run at her place of residence.
Matsitsiro was remanded out of custody on free bail to October 24.
The court heard that on August 18, Matsitsiro went to a Grade 7 class and requested for some learners to go and load 22×3,6 metres of endurate asbestos sheets and five pine timber that was six meters long.
The material was to be loaded onto the school bus.
It is alleged that during loading of the asbestos sheets and timber, Mr Themba Mangwiro, the deputy head at the school, asked where the material was being taken to.
He was then told that they were being taken to the school head’s residence in Rugare, for use in the construction of a fowl run.
It was later established that the timber and asbestos sheets were taken without the approval of the School Development Association. A report of theft was then made leading to Matsitsiro’s arrest.
