School loses 26 tablets to burglar

A thief broke into a primary school in Lupane and stole 26 Lenovo tablets worth thousands of dollars.

The incident is believed to have occurred between December 17 and this month.

No arrests and recoveries have been made, but investigations are in progress.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “Police in Lupane are investigating a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft, which occurred on an unknown date between December 17, 2021 and February 8, 2022 at Mathambo Primary School.

“An unknown suspect broke into the headmaster’s office and stole 26 Lenovo tablets, one internet cable and one earthnet cable.”

Asst Comm Nyathi appealed for information that might assist them with investigations.

Thieves have been targeting schools countrywide stealing computers, cash and property.

Eight armed robbers recently raided Gateway High School in Harare and got away with more than US$250 000 cash after blowing a safe with explosives.

The eight went to the school while armed with explosives, which they used to blow up the administration offices to gain entry and stole the money.
