SCHOOLBOYS RESTRICTED TO TRAINING JUST 48 HRS EVERY YEAR

MOSES Chunga has sensationally claimed that the majority of local schoolboy footballers only train for an average of just 48 HOURS every year under the guidance of their teachers.

He says that is equal to training for just TWO days per year.

The former Warriors captain said it even gets worse when it comes to the time they spend playing the game in a competitive environment.

It comes to just 30 minutes a week, TWO hours a month and just SIX hours during the entire second term when football is played at schools.

Schoolboy matches are 30 minutes aside.

Chunga says that when one considers that there are about 8 670 hours, in a regular year, restricting training for schoolboy footballers to just 48 hours per year, was not good enough to produce quality players from our schools.

“People have been waiting for the next Moses Chunga, the next Stix, the next star but we are not going to get those players coming from our schools because our system does not provide the right environment for the production of such players,” he said.

“We can’t have a system, which limits the training of our schoolboys to just an hour on Tuesday and an hour on Thursday and just one hour of playing on Friday and expect to produce some great players.

“This is the most sensitive and important time of the development of these schoolboys and when we limit their training at school to just 48 hours per term, and that’s it for the whole year, we are losing the plot.

“You cannot produce a successful Olympic star like our Minister Coventry when you restrict the schoolboy and schoolgirl swimmers to just two hours per week.

“Success does not come easily, there is need for great sacrifice and I am not seeing that when it comes to our schoolboys and the way our system is structured at our schools.”

The legend has rebranded his Moses Bambo Chunga Academy which he wants to provide a platform to give as much training as possible to the schoolboys.

“I support the Government’s move that we should not have holiday classes because I feel our kids need that freedom, during the holidays, to get the chance to pursue their interests without the strings that come with being at school or attending classes.

“It’s clear that those who believe their future is in football will get the chance to train more during the holidays and I support that.”
