A GOVERNMENT Primary School in Rusape has riled parents by demanding tuition fees in foreign currency.
Haisoswi Primary School is located in the rural areas of Manicaland.
In an interview with H-Metro, parents said the school’s officials were demanding fees in US dollars.
“We are not against fees payment, but the issue of paying in forex is not good for us.
“Where can we get forex in rural areas, we survive on small proceeds from subsistence farming and the school is now demanding fees in US dollars,” said one parent, who preferred anonymity.
School head, Mrs Mandeya, confirmed their fees were now pegged in US dollars.
“Fees is US$23 and is deposited in the Nostro account.
“As you can see, there is inflation all over and that is why we want fees in forex,” she said.
She revealed there is a certain amount transferring students need to pay before enrolment.
