adminschools from Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces took part in the tournament. Under-20 basketball team captain from Sithabile Ngandini spoke to Cool Lifestyle and expressed her delight in taking part in the prestigious tournament.
“It is our first time ever to host this pre-test tournament and we are excited about it. We are all here to play and have fun, the tournament is not all about winning, but sharing knowledge and basketball skills,” said the Girls High star.
Sithabile said the tournament was a platform for individuals to assess themselves in terms of strength and team building.
The tournament comprised of 25 teams from different schools, both girls and boys. Some of the schools that graced the occasion included Mavhudzi High from Manicaland, Kwekwe High School from the Midlands, Cornway College, Dominican Convent, Dzivarasekwa 1 High School and Queen Elizabeth.
The Tigers of Prince Edward basketball team, who are the national champions, also took time to come and support their sister school, Harare Girls High, which scooped the gold cup last year.
Churchill Boys’ High basketball team, who took silver in 2012, also participated in the pre-test tournament. Dominican Convent came third, while Girls High Under-16 came second and their Under-20 took the first position.
Meanwhile, Girls’ High basketball teams have formed a basketball school club, called the Greenstars, which trains all year round and it is registered with the HBA board.
Ngandini, Mellissa Mjonga, Trish Chijiri and Stacey Wiscott are the backbone of this team and are all currently in the Zimbabwe Under-18 national team.
The Greenstars first team is expected to travel to South Africa in April for the ISA Basketball Festival.
