A BULAWAYO woman who falsely accused her husband of rape in a jealous rage has found herself on the wrong side of the law — and the truth.
Twazibona Dube (22) landed in hot soup after she stormed into a police station last month and laid a bogus rape charge against her husband, Patrick Chidumo.
On 30 April, around 5pm, at their family home, Dube confronted Patrick in their bedroom, accusing him of cheating. She demanded his phone, but when he refused and tried to hold onto it, a scuffle broke out and he pushed her away.
Fuming, Dube ran to the nearest police station and claimed Patrick had raped her. Police swiftly arrested him and he spent a night behind bars.
But the lie couldn’t last. The very next day, Dube came clean, penning an affidavit, admitting she had fabricated the whole story in a fit of anger. Patrick was freed — and she was arrested instead!
Last Wednesday, Dube appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Evia Matura, facing a charge of making a false report under the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
She pleaded guilty and begged for mercy.
“Your worship, I’m really sorry. I was angry and acted out of emotion. Please forgive me,” she said.
Magistrate Matura slapped her with a 90-day jail sentence, which was wholly suspended for five years, on condition she doesn’t commit a similar offence.
Her wild lie nearly destroyed a man’s life, now she’s living with the shame of her own reckless fury.
