Bulawayo is a vibe! The Scorpions Kings can’t get enough out of it!

Scorpion Kings are set to once more deliver a banger gig before the year ends, following the love they got in their show stopping full-house gig last Saturday (25 January) at BAC night Club.

When the midday South African Airways landed at Joshua Mqabuko International Airport, it took seconds for the video dubbed, “The boys have landed,” to go viral. The hype building and fanaticism growing to see the Mzansi kingpins performing at BAC later that night saw 12 hours run down as if it was 12 minutes to witness the terrorising Scorpion Kings first act.

The much anticipated Amapiano show which saw the twin Scorpion Kings with the du-rags returning to Bulawayo, proved to be a well matched affair between the Amapiano duo. A du-rag is a scarf or doek-like head gear worn to accelerate the development of waves, braids or dreadlocks in the hair and sometimes they are worn as a fashion statement.

“Phori phori and Kabza de Small were supposed to perform for two hours at most, but with the Bulawayo crowd vibing to each and every piano track in their sets, they had to add three more hours leading to the DJs delivering a five-hour performance,” said Patrice Manyathela, the organiser whose birthday coincided with the gig.

“I have a good relationship with the artistes, we have worked together previously and we were celebrating my birthday,” he added.

The Scorpion Kings hinted on a possible return before the year ends.

“The turnout was not expected, we had planned this on a small scale as the venue is a bit tight, but with the numbers that showed up, the Scorpion Kings promised to return in a few months.

“We are taking it to a bigger outdoor venue,” he added.

The individual presentations

The Scorpion Kings are known for their trademark of sharing decks but BAC revellers saw Kabza and Phori presenting individually, two hours thirty minutes each respectively.

Did Kabza perform?

Many fun lovers were left asking if Kabza performed as Maphorisa seemed to have stolen the show due to the individual acts.

When asked about this, Patrice said: “Kabza is short, it becomes difficult for people at the far end to see him over the booth but those who really know him would testify.”
