A 28-year-old man from Masera village, Beitbridge in Matabeleland South province will rue the day he stabbed Surprise Mlilo (20) in a dispute over a scotch cart after he was slapped with an effective five-year jail sentence.

Mpho Moyo appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate facing a charge of attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charge but was convicted after trial.

The court heard that on 2 June 2024 at around 3 am, Moyo and Mlilo were travelling in the same direction using scotch carts. Mlilo asked Moyo to pave way so that he could overtake him but this did not go well with Moyo who stopped his scotch cart in the middle of the road and confronted the victim.
