CASTLE Lager Premiership champions, Scottland FC, will parade their trophy in Mutare – the home of club owner, Pedzisai ‘Scot’ Sakupwaya – on Saturday (tomorrow).
Festivities will get underway at 11am.
The 2025 PSL champions’ trophy parade in Mutare comes after a similar event in Harare following a historic debut season.
The league newcomers clinched the title by seven points, becoming the first team since Black Rhinos in 1984, to win the championship in their maiden campaign.
Perhaps owing to it being the home of the club owner, Mutare has a soft spot for the Premier Soccer League champions, given the carnival atmosphere that engulfed Sakubva Stadium when the club came down to face Manica Diamonds in a league fixture.
Apparently, it had been years since Sakubva Stadium witnessed such a bumper crowd and electric atmosphere for a top-flight league football match.
Scottland FC secretary-general, Fortune Bgwoni, confirmed that the victory parade will start in the Central Business District, before going into the high-density residential areas of the city, mainly Dangamvura, Chikanga, and Sakubva.
After the parade, the convoy will drive to Scottland FC patron, Jeremiah Sakupwanya’s farm on the outskirts of the city to hand over the trophy to him.
“The trophy is coming to Mutare. At 11am, we will parade the trophy in Mutare with the players. From there, we are going to hand over the trophy to our patron, Jeremiah Sakupwanya at the farm on the outskirts of the city,” said Bgwoni.
Bgwoni confirmed that several musicians, including Jah Prayzer, Killer T, Dorcas Moyo, and Enzo Ishal, will be performing as part of the celebrations.
“The victory celebrations will continue with several musicians, including Jah Prayzer, Killer T, Dorcas Moyo, and Enzo Ishal, performing live on stage,” he said.
Bgwoni conceded that the club has an undeniable connection with the eastern border city.
“Even though we are now a brand that resonates with so many areas around the country, it is undeniable that as a club we have a strong connection with Mutare as a city. Yes, this is the home of our patron and naturally our president, therefore we will remain attached to the city in one way or the other,” said Bgwoni.
