Scottland win, at last

Zimpapers Sports Hub, MWOS 0-1 Scottland

SCOTTLAND needed a result, badly, and they got it in the middle of chaos.
Khama Billiat’s second-half strike settled a heated, ugly affair at Ngoni yesterday, a match that swung between proper football and something close to disorder, as Scottland edged MWOS to move within two points of leaders CAPS United, at least for now.

This one was never going to be calm. It hasn’t been since these two started bumping into each other back in the Northern Region Soccer League days in 2024. There is history here and it showed from the first whistle.

The tackles came early. Some were fair, some weren’t. Tempers stayed close to the surface. And then it boiled over.

At half-time, players from both sides refused to leave the pitch, arguing and pushing over control of the centre spot.

It dragged on long enough to eat into the break, with the teams only heading to the dressing rooms with barely five minutes left of the interval.

It looked surreal. It felt unnecessary.

“I don’t know what to say about this. It’s uncalled for,” said Scottland coach Norman Mapeza.

“It’s unfortunate to see things like that happening in this era.”
MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa was just as blunt.

“This is condemnable. We cannot allow such things to happen in this age.”

For a moment, the game lost itself. But when they came back out, it found some shape again.

Scottland had a point to prove. They lost this fixture 1-0 last season and never really recovered from it. This time, they stayed patient and waited for their moment.

It came 10 minutes into the second half.

Nelson Chadya started it with a quick release. Mafios Chihweta drove forward with purpose, drew defenders and slipped Billiat in. The veteran laid it back into the path of Chikwata, whose effort was saved by Tedious Baye.

The rebound was messy, bouncing off bodies, but Billiat reacted first and forced it over the line.
That was enough.

Scottland managed the game from there, not always comfortably, but with enough control to see it through. MWOS pushed late, but never quite found the cutting edge.

They remain on 13 points and Mutasa is already looking ahead.
