HIGHER and Tertiary Education, Science and Development Minister, Godfrey Gandawa, has urged top flight football teams to spread their scouting wings to remote areas where raw talent is lying dormant. Gandawa said this on the sidelines of the second edition a tournament he hosted over the Heroes and Defence Forces Holidays as the Member of Parliament for Magunje Constituency.Dubbed the “Dr Gandawa Heroes Tournament”, the annual event, sponsored to the tune of $8 000, hosted athletics, 16 football teams, 16 netball teams as well as volleyball within the constituency.
This was a positive development from the inaugural edition which hosted netball and football competitions with only 16 teams equalling the number of districts in Magunje Constituency participating.
“You can see the quality of play displayed here pushes me to want to talk to established teams, for instance we have ZPC Kariba close by. I think they should be able to scout for players from teams we have here.
“So I think it is best that the next time these teams are playing whether here (in Magunje) or in other tournaments, I will arrange with other constituencies and try to speak to various teams to come and scout for players.”
