THE church service for departed Highlanders board president Jonathan Themba Mhlanga who died last Thursday will be held at Makokoba Adventist Church this morning ahead of his burial at Lady Stanley Cemetery.
Lennox, his first born child said his father had attended the SDA church for most of his life and it was fitting that the service to bid him farewell be held there. He said his father’s body left the funeral parlour yesterday for his home, Number 20 Antrim Road in Matsheumhlope where it lay in state.
He disclosed that some of the speakers that have been lined up for this morning include Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo, Minister of Welfare Services for War Veterans and War Collaborators Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, businessman Johnson Majele Sibanda who was Mhlanga’s friend as well as Highlanders board secretary Jimmy Ncube.
According to Lennox, after the speeches, a sermon and body viewing will be held before the funeral proceedings move to Lady Stanley for the burial at 11am.
Mhlanga, born in Vungu, Lower Gweru in 1935 had his roots in Chipinge. He succumbed to complications related to old age at 81 while admitted to Premier Hospital in Hillside. He leaves behind seven children, 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
