THE body of the Lupane cop, one of the two young men who drowned on Sunday after their boat capsized at the Bubi-Lupane Dam in Matabeleland North province is yet to be retrieved.

Joseph Masvora (24) who was a police officer’s search continues after the search team led by ZRP Sub Aqua abandoned the search late yesterday evening.

Brian Thulani Ngwenya (26), a council employee and a recent graduate of Lupane State University was buried in Lupane yesterday (Wednesday).

In an interview with Zimpapers, Lupane District Development Co-ordinator (DDC), Mrs Ennety Sithole, said the search for Masvora’s body continues today.
“We have not yet found the body of Joseph Masvora. The team led by ZRP Sub Aqua is on the ground searching. However due to time, the search party stopped yesterday and will continue today,” she said.

Meanwhile, scores of mourners gathered yesterday in Lupane to bid farewell to Brian Ngwenya.

Locals revealed that the two men were on a leisure retreat when they allegedly removed their clothes and boarded the council-owned boat.

Their clothes were later found neatly placed on the riverbank, sparking confusion and speculation.

Pictures of the recovered clothes have since circulated on local WhatsApp groups, with many questioning why the men would have undressed before boarding the boat.
