Seasoned Moyo hangs up boots, takes up new role at TelOne

MANY will certainly remember the name Xolisani “Scara” Moyo, an Entumbane-bred midfielder who dazzled in the centre of the park for Chicken Inn, Bulawayo City, Ngezi Platinum Stars and TelOne, among other local clubs.

The former box-to-box midfielder has officially hung up his boots and has since taken up a new role at ambitious TelOne, where he now serves as the midfielders’ coach while also assisting with the strikers.

The club is under the guidance of head coach Herbert “Jampano” Maruwa.

“Scara has been with us since his days as a player. He hung up his boots at TelOne FC, having joined the club from Bulawayo Chiefs in 2024,” said TelOne media and communications officer Sindiso Dube.

“He played until mid-season in 2025, at which point he was absorbed into the technical team. He does not serve as the kit manager; rather, he is the midfielders’ coach and also assists with the strikers’ department.

“He is an experienced individual who has had a successful career as a player. He has made a huge impact on the younger players, who are feeding off his experience. As someone who played for and retired at the club, he possesses institutional memory that goes a long way in the craft.”

Moyo boasts a wealth of experience, having also turned out for ZPC Hwange, now-defunct PSL side How Mine, and Manica Diamonds, where he spent three-and-a-half seasons. He also had a four-and-a-half-year stint with Ngezi Platinum Stars.

His journey also included a spell at Greefuel before moving to Bulawayo Chiefs, a club he left in 2024, together with Nkosiyabo Masilela, to join TelOne.

While Moyo retired in mid-2025, Masilela is still on duty for the WiFi Boys and recently featured in their two-all draw against FC Platinum.

“It’s really an honour to get such recognition after hanging up my boots as a player. I have had my time on the pitch and now I think it’s time to help others grow in the game,” said Moyo.

“It is my hope to also learn from the young players and the senior members of our technical team. They say learning never ends.

“I am very grateful to the TelOne family for believing in me and I will keep working hard as I continue carving my name in local football circles,” he added. — @FungaiMuderere
