SEVERAL mega developmental projects being spearheaded by the Second Republic in Manicaland that include a US$15 million resin production plant, the Christmas Pass bypass road, interchange, as well as access to civic documents through completion of a state-of-the-art Registrar’s office, among many other projects, are set to improve lives in the eastern border province.
This came to light during a media tour of various developmental projects in the province that was led by Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere, yesterday.
Dr Muswere led the tour of Grand Reef Airport, Komo United Resin Private Limited Company, Manicaland Registrar’s offices, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) silos, Mutare Teachers College Juice and Water Processing Plant, as well as the Forbes Border Post.

The resin production plant on the outskirts of Mutare is set to employ an excess of 2 500 skilled and unskilled people in yet another milestone achievement under the Second Republic.
Run by a Chinese investor under the Komo United Resin Private Limited banner, the project is undergoing construction in situ at a fast pace.
Apart from this, long queues are now a thing of the past at the Civil Registry offices in Mutare following the completion of the state-of-the-art offices, where people are easily accessing civil documents close to their homes.
In an interview during the tour, Dr Muswere said the achievements were made possible by the able stewardship of President Mnangagwa.
“Thousands of kilometres of road rehabilitation and construction, in terms of tar and gravel, have been completed, with several projects also still underway, which also includes the Christmas Pass bypass road, modernisation of the Forbes Border Post to enhance the movement of goods and services between Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the rest of the world.
“These are some of the success stories under the leadership of President Mnangagwa. Modernisation and construction of a number of infrastructure projects at Manicaland State University, Mutare Teachers College and Mutare Polytechnic College are some of the notable achievements that we have managed to register as a Government.
“Added to this is the completion of the Manicaland Civil Registry offices in Mutare. You will recall that prior to the inception of the new political dispensation, queues for birth certificates and passports were an everyday thing. However, through the public-private partnership arrangement, we have managed to improve the ease of doing business as well as enhance service delivery,” said Dr Muswere.
In a separate interview, Minister of State for Manicaland Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza said the introduction of Harare-Mutare Air Zimbabwe flights has spurred an increase in tourist arrivals.
“This is definitely a game changer (the Harare-Mutare flights). We are witnessing an increase in the arrival of tourists who are enjoying the convenience of leaving Harare and being in Mutare in a few minutes, then be able to be at Mtarazi Falls and other tourism destinations in a short space of time.
“This will be augmented as we expect Terminal Two, which is going to be built in Mutasa with a 4km runway that has a cargo airport where our greenbelt in Mutasa and other areas in Manicaland will make everything much more convenient,” said Advocate Mugadza.
