THE Second Republic has ushered in a new era of development in Binga District, with major infrastructure projects ending years of isolation and positioning the area for economic growth, Chief Siansali has said.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Kasambabezi Border Post by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, the traditional leader, who is also a Senator, said President Mnangagwa’s administration had transformed Binga through infrastructure development and inclusive policies anchored on the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
He described the commissioning of the border post as a landmark development that would unlock economic opportunities for the district and strengthen regional integration.
“This effort that we are witnessing today buttresses the President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
“Gone are the days when Binga was not even known as a district in Zimbabwe by some Zimbabweans. The new dispensation has brought our district to life and we are very thankful,” said Chief Siansali.
He said Binga was now benefiting from key infrastructure and economic development projects that were improving livelihoods and creating employment opportunities for local communities.
Chief Siansali said the opening of the Kasambabezi Border Post would boost cross-border trade, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and deepen economic ties between Zimbabwe and neighbouring Zambia.
He said Government had also invested in public infrastructure and service delivery, restoring confidence among residents and helping the district emerge from years of marginalisation.
However, Chief Siansali appealed to Government to urgently rehabilitate Binga’s road network, describing the poor state of roads as one of the biggest obstacles to development.
“I cannot leave this podium without mentioning the cries of our people. The district no longer has roads worth talking about.
“Virtually all roads across the district have become death traps. Most bridges and culverts have collapsed.
“We kindly plead through your good office that this plight be treated as a state of emergency,” he said.
He said deteriorating roads had increased transport and vehicle maintenance costs, making travel across the district difficult.
“Please come to our rescue. I know our President is a listening President. Our efforts to meet him as chiefs from the district have not been successful for almost three years now.
“We hope and pray that, through your good office, you will help unlock the doors for us,” said Chief Siansali.
The newly commissioned Kasambabezi Border Post is expected to improve trade, tourism and investment by enhancing connectivity between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Binga is endowed with significant tourism and economic assets, including Lake Kariba, natural hot springs, wildlife, fishing, boating, crocodile farming and a rich cultural heritage, positioning it as one of Zimbabwe’s emerging tourism and investment destinations.
