Secondary blasting accident claims life at Blanket Mine

A Blanket Mine employee has tragically lost his life following an accident related to secondary blasting at the mine in Gwanda yesterday.

The mine’s parent company, Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc has confirmed a tragic accident.
In a statement, the company expressed deep regret over the fatality, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of all personnel remain its immediate priority.

“It is with regret that Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc (“Caledonia”) reports that an accident took place on September 22, 2025, at the Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe, as a result of which one Blanket Mine employee lost his life,” reads the statement.

“The accident was related to secondary blasting. The company’s immediate priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved and to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this accident.”

Caledonia said further details cannot be released pending the outcome of an inquiry into this accident by the relevant authorities.

“Caledonia expresses its condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.”
