Government has heightened security features on the Covid-19 vaccination card, with the advanced electronic features to counter the counterfeits now in circulation.

Director health informatics in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Simukai Zizhou, gave details of the coming card that will be given to those immunised.

“The vaccination cards which were initially issued, we have discovered that some are being sold. We have now developed a new card for vaccination against Covid-19 with new security features.

“The new security features include the QR code which can be scanned online using our electronic health record, which can actually verify if the certificate is valid or not.”

Dr Zizhou reminded people that the most important thing was to be immunised, and discouraged those circumventing the process.

He said the Government was determined to protect its population against the global pandemic by the roll-out of the vaccination programme.

“What is important for Zimbabweans is not having the card itself, because we found out that the drive to buy the vaccination card on the parallel market is to avoid vaccination,” said Dr Zizhou.
